Arctic Ground Squirrel
This cute guy was found off the Dalton Highway driving over Atigun Pass in Alaska. The leaves of the low bush blueberries turn bright red in fall. The Arctic ground squirrel is a species of ground squirrel native to the Arctic and Subarctic of North America and Asia.
Flames of Fall, Brooks Range
This scene is from driving on the Dalton Highway, north of the arctic circle, sometimes referred to as the Haul Road. This area of stunning fall beauty is on the north slope of the Brooks range in Alaska. It is very remote but worth the effort and travel planning to get here. You will notice there are no trees in this subarctic environment. This is late August where fall is in few swing this far north.
Galbraith Lake, Brooks Range
This lake is in subarctic Alaska north of the Brooks range. There is a campground here but no services, no gas but plenty of remote beauty. This is found driving the Dalton Highway north of Fairbanks, north of Coldfoot and on a mostly dirt and gravel road used by large trucks going back and forth from the oil fields on Pruhdoe Bay.
Haul Road and Piipeline-
A typical portrait of the Dalton Highway, also known as the Haul Road to the many truckers who use it. The road parallels the Alaskan pipeline most of the way. There are very few gas stations so careful planning is necessary if driving this road. This drive is most likely beautiful any time of year but fall really is stunning with the vibrant colors.
Galbraith Lake, Alaska
Stunning blue lake surrounded by brilliant fall colors of the arctic tundra is truly beautiful to see. This lake sits at about mile 275 of the Dalton Highway in the North Slope Burrough of Alaska.
